High Risk Life Insurance

No matter how high risk you think you are, these days almost anyone can be insured for life insurance. You just need to know where to look, and how to do it. A good insurance broker that has a lot of experience with a lot of insurance company will be your best friend in finding you a policy , that will insure a higher risk applicant.

You are considered high risk if you have and kind of a health condition that could possibly contribute to shorten your life. This kind of changes all the time, and what was considered high risk 30 years ago is nothing today. I will list some conditions, that if they are well controlled with medication would not be considered high risk:

  • High blood pressure or hypertension
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Acid Reflux
  • Thyroid
  • Sleep-Apnea
  • Many others

Now here is some conditions, that will likely cause you to be rated, which means that they will insure you, but you will have to pay more than the standard premium:

  • Diabetes (Type I and II)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fybromyalgia
  • Heart attach (at least 3 years ago)
  • Bypass surgery
  • Cancer or stroke (at least 3 or more years ago)

in some cases , you could be facing a total decline, which means that the insurance company considers you to high risk and will not insure you at all. This doesn’t happen that often, but if you had any of these, you will face a decline:

  • Heart attack, stroke or cancer in the last 2 years
  • Hard drug use in last 10 years
  • If under driving suspension
  • If in jail or on probation

If you are not sure where you fit in here, and how high risk you really are, consult with a broker, and he will advise you. In some cases it is better to apply with a non-medical type of policy, those usually have less questions, and less chances that you may be declined.

Off course, those kinds of policies are more expensive, and should only be used if the regular ones are not an option.

The secret is to know when to apply at which place, because if you do it in the wrong order, it will not work. You see, the instant issue, high risk policies all have a question “have you ever been declined or rated for life insurance”. If you answer yes to that question, you are automatically disqualified from that policy.

So you want to apply for that one first, that’s why I say that you need to speak to a good broker on this to get good advice.
