Is it better coming from an insurance broker, or from an insurance company representative?
When it comes to advice on anything, whether it is on your investments, your family, and even on your life insurance, you must be very careful about who is giving the advice and what are his/her motives.
I used to work for an Insurance company back 20 years ago, when I first started in the life insurance business. Back then there was no life insurance brokers, everybody just worked for one company, that’s it. We were trained on that company’s products and services, and we were told by that company’s sales manager that this particular insurer was the best in Canada. We then passed on this message (or shall I say ADVISED our clients) that what was presented to them was the best available option for them.
What we really should have said was, this is the best option for you , Mr customer, best option that I have, because I am not aware of any other options, since I am only trained on this one company’s product. Hope you are following me here, this advice that I gave my clients was not neutral, transparent advice, it was full of bias and self serving.
It didn’t take me too long to realize, that this is not the way I want to do business, and very soon after the Insurance companies in Canada opened up the brokerage system, I became a broker. It was as if a large burden was lifted off of my shoulders. I could finally do what I wanted to do all along, and that is to advise my clients on the best options for them, and really mean it.
You see, as you can see on this site, we pride ourselves to be independent of any one Insurance company. We have contracts and relations with most insurers in Canada, but we don’t work for them and don’t owe them anything. When you ask us for life insurance advice, we will give you life insurance advice, but it will be transparent and un-biased.
Sure, we have some favourites, let’s face it, not all insurers are the same, and some of them we like better than others, but I will always give you, my client the choice on how to proceed. In other words, I will look at your situation, and then through my vast knowledge and experience in dealing with over 30 insurers in Canada, I will give you advice on how I think you should proceed. I have always found that our clients really appreciate this approach, and they feel comfortable in knowing, that either way, we get paid by whatever life insurance company and life policy they pick.
We really have no reason or interest to recommend something to you that is not in your best interest, that’s the beauty of our system, it is a true WIN-Win situation.
